What is a Family Physician?A family physician is a physician who provides primary care; a specialty requiring specific residence training. A family physician treats acute and chronic illnesses, provides preventive care and health education for all ages (newborns to seniors) and both sexes. Some also care for hospitalized patients and do minor surgery.
